Introduction
The historical-documentary materials that constitutes the Scientific Collections of the Department of Architecture of the University of Palermo come from different departments, which were united in 2011 in a single structure. Since 2012, under the direction of Marcella Aprile, this heritage has been reunited under the current name. Since 2014, the Department of Architecture has also acquired the historic Basile Endowment and the Ducrot Archive (now under the name Basile and Ducrot Collections).
History
The heritage of the Scientific Collections is currently made up of the materials preserved in the Benfratello Bequest, in the Basile and Ducrot Collections, in the Zanca Collection, in the Caronia Roberti Collection, in the Giuseppe Caronia Collection, in the Gagliardi Collection, in the Gabinetto di Disegno Collection, in the Model Collection of the Department of Building Design and Construction, in the Boscarino Collection and in the Pintacuda-Perrier Collection. In 2014, the Pozzetto Archive and the Colajanni Archive were added to these funds; in 2015, the Vicari Fund and the Lo Bianco Fund will be added. With the unification of these documentary and book holdings, the Department of Architecture has started the first phase of a program aimed at forming a dynamic research structure in the university archive sector, no longer just with a view to the mere conservation of bequests or donations (archives and documents, libraries, photo libraries, collections of models and scale models, etc.) but in a proactive dimension of constant study and integrated consultation according to scientific criteria, as well as the acquisition (and compliance) of other architecture and engineering archives.
