The Ichthyological Collection
This collection includes about 1,000 specimens preserved dry or in alcohol, ranging from Sicilian snakes and green lizards to precious endemic species from the islands surrounding Sicily. It also features recently introduced alien species, such as the African clawed frog (Xenopus laevis), which now compete with native Sicilian fauna. One of the most significant specimens is the Giant Skink, collected during an Italian expedition to Cape Verde and now extinct.
