The Malacological and Marine Invertebrate Collection
This section includes the historically and scientifically significant Airoldi and Calcara collections, which are notable for their numerous holotypes and paratypes. In total, there are about 2,000 boxes containing thousands of marine and terrestrial shell specimens, mainly reserved for research purposes. Also of interest is a collection of about 500 marine invertebrates preserved in alcohol or formalin, offering a broad overview of the main zoological groups found in the Mediterranean Sea, from cnidarians to chordates.
