Statua del Paride

Paris statue (Paride)

Neoclassical work by Palermo sculptor Nunzio Morello

The marble sculture

Marble sculpture created by the Palermo sculptor Nunzio Morello in 1838. It is placed at the center of a small oval marble basin located in the square in front of the Serra Carolina (Winter Garden).

The sculpture, in full neoclassical style, depicts the young Paris, son of King Priam, dressed as a shepherd and sitting on a rock in a state of ecstatic contemplation. He is in the act of deciding which of the three goddesses — Hera, Athena, and Aphrodite — is the most beautiful.

The artist's signature can be seen on the pedestal.
