The 40th anniversary of the Gemmellaro Museum: scholars and researchers from across Europe in Palermo
Palermo as a crossroads of scientific research and debate on biodiversity to mark the 40th anniversary of the reopening of the University's Gemmellaro Museum of Paleontology. The anniversary coincides with an internationally significant scientific event that will place our city at the center of the debate on the role of natural history museums as a cultural heritage and the protection of biodiversity, with the 7th International Congress on Biodiversity and the 9th Congress of the Italian Society of Malacology, scheduled for November 28 and 29.
The initiative, which will bring together researchers and scholars from various Italian and European institutions, is organized by Biodiversity Journal, the Italian Society of Malacology, the Sicilian Entefauna Association, and the Universities of Catania and Palermo.
The venues chosen for the conference proceedings represent the Palermo University museum system: the Botanical Garden, the Zoology Museum "P. Doderlein" and the Museum "G. Gemmellaro", the latter in the fortieth year since its reopening.
Work will begin on Friday, November 28, at 10:30 a.m. in the "Lanza" Hall of the Botanical Garden. Prominent speakers include Rafael Zardoya of the Museo Nacional de Ciencias Naturales in Madrid, Franco Andreone, IUCN's Italy representative, and Fausto Barbagli of the National Association of Scientific Museums.
